Totopara: a small tribal village
TOTOPARA is a small village situated beside torsa river near jaldapara reserve forest. It's basically a tribal village. People of a unique TOTO tribe live in this village. The name of the village TOTOPARA is came from the name of the tribe. One can reach this village by road from NH31 through HANTAPARA. It is a vanishing tribe. But nowadays the population of this tribe is increasing day by day. As per 2011 census of India TOTOPARA had a total population of 2960. This special tribe is found in this village only. The people of this village is educated also. A primary school was established in the year 1990 to give proper education to the children of this village. In the year 1995 a high school was also established with hostel facility to give those children higher education. A primary health center is also situated in this village. Ishpa and Cheima are the only god and goddess whom they worship. They think that Ishpa lives in the hills of Bhutan and causes sickness when displeased. They offer him animal sacrifices and Eu. And Cheima keeps the village and the villagers safe from trouble. They offer her rice, fowl and Eu. They are not active farmers. But earlier they do farming in their own land to satisfy their hunger. And they do animal rearing also. But now they are doing labour work in nearby towns. Some of them are doing jobs in several government sectors. If you want to visit this place then you have to stay at Jaigaon or Phuentsholing or Alipurduar. There you can find a huge variety of hotels, lodges etc. You can book rooms through google also.
